Microsoft Developer Information
- Using VBA to Send Data to a Table from an Unbound Form Control This is a useful trick which gives the Access Developer additional flexibility when working with forms and data. It uses Access VBA and DAO.
- The Visio 2010 Connectivity API Our previous post on AutoConnect in Visio 2010 discussed how Visio 2010 makes it simpler and faster for end users to create connected diagrams such as flowcharts. Many developers will be pleased to hear that Visio 2010 also brings greatly simplified utilities for working with connected diagrams programmatically. The Visio 2010 API contains new methods that let developers manipulate and traverse connected diagrams or graphs at a higher level of abstraction than previously, which can result in greater programmer productivity and more concise, readable code.
- New and Improved AntiXss 3.1, Now With Sanitization As we’ve talked about on this blog many times in the past, the SDL requires the use of the Microsoft AntiXss library to defend against cross-site scripting attacks. However, we haven’t talked about the fact that until now, there have been two separate versions of AntiXss: one freely available to external users and one restricted to use only inside Microsoft hosted data centers. The internal version will be made available.
- Two New Security Tools for your SDL tool belt (Bonus: a “7-easy-steps” whitepaper) Today we are making available BinScope Binary Analyzer and MiniFuzz File Fuzzer as no cost downloads.
- Application Security Street Fighting As a developer, you are faced with an almost impossible task. Even small projects process hundreds of pieces of input data, provide access control to multiple users and interact with multiple systems like databases and browsers. If you make one mistake, one single SQL injection flaw, one function with insufficient access control, you lose. On the other hand, an attacker only has to find one single flaw in order to breach the application.
- Supporting Web Standards Development with SuperPreview The Expression Web team recently shipped SuperPreview for Internet Explorer, a FREE tool for performing cross-browser debugging across Internet Explorer, including versions 6, 7, and 8. This tool also helps developers and site owners in migrating their sites from earlier versions of Internet Explorer to the standards-compliant Internet Explorer 8.
- Guidelines for add-on developers We have published a full list of guidelines to help add-on developers create quality add-ons. We created these guidelines to respond to demand from the developer community and to help share the thinking of the IE team, gathered from years of providing support to users and developers. We strongly recommend that developers follow these guidelines when developing add-ons for IE users.

- Mark Russinovich: Pushing the Limits of Windows: Handles I’m going to go inside the implementation of handles to find and explain their limits. Handles are data structures that represent open instances of basic operating system objects applications interact with, such as files, registry keys, synchronization primitives, and shared memory. There are two limits related to the number of handles a process can create: the maximum number of handles the system sets for a process and the amount of memory available to store the handles and the objects the application is referencing with its handles.
- Windows 7: The 10 Things to Do First for Windows 7 When you run your thumb down the list of new features and improvements in Windows 7 (see the feature comparison chart at tinyurl.com/win7featuregrid), you’re bound to wonder how you’re going to get your arms around all that new technology so that you can deliver it to your users without too much disruption.

- Cluster: Creating and Configuring a Generic Script Resource In this post I will talk about creating the third of our generic containers, Generic Scripts.
- Failover Clustering Performance Counters In Windows Server 2008 R2 we have added performance counters for Failover Clustering. Some components in the cluster deal with lots of calls or traffic going through them and some buffer information in memory before it can get processed. We have added performance counters to several such components.

Exchange Server
- Introduction to Exchange 2007 Search Search in Exchange 2007 (Exchange Search) is completely different from earlier versions of Exchange. Improvements were made to performance, Content Indexing, and Search. New items are indexed almost immediately after their arrival into a mailbox giving end users a fast, reliable, and more stable search function. In Exchange 2000 and Exchange 2003, indexing was not enabled by default. In Exchange 2007, indexing is enabled by default on all mailbox databases and there is no initial setup or configuration required. See also: Exchange 2007 Search – Part 2: Content Indexing
- Removing “Reply All” Functionality for Outlook Users Who Participate in Reply-All Storms, via Group Policy: what to do To be clear there are a number of different approaches for achieving the goal of disabling Reply-All in Outlook. The most common technique would appear to be the creation and deployment of custom Outlook toolbars. Far more infrequent are macros in Outlook as well as custom Group Policy Objects (the primary topic of this post). Additionally, while future versions of Exchange will include features to deal with this problem much better (read about Exchange 2010 Conversation View here) – I wanted something that people can use now, with versions of software they currently have.
- Single Item Recovery in Exchange Server 2010 Exchange 2010 aims to reduce the complexity and administrative costs associated with single item recovery.
- Exchange ActiveSync and iPhone OS 3.1 Many Exchange Server customers have reported issues logging on to Exchange using iPhone devices older than iPhone 3GS. iPhones support Exchange ActiveSync (EAS), the same protocol supported by Windows Mobile devices, and licensed by many other mobile device manufacturers.
- What’s New in the Exchange Management Console for Exchange Server 2010 This series of articles will quickly skim through all the new administrative features surfaced via the EMC. - Some Sample Reports… Back at MMS this year we presented a session on authoring reports. During that session my colleague Vitaly created a SQL stored procedure that allowed us to create a server overview report showing key server metrics such as Processor Count, Physical Memory, CPU Utilization, Availability and Logical Disk Space. I have now eventually gotten round to making this report available in sample (non-production) form so you can see the approach we took.
- New Beta AEM\DEM Reports As part of OpsMgr 2007 R2 and Desktop Error Monitoring 3.5 (DEM) we will be releasing four new AEM reports later this month.
